With prom season quickly approaching, I wanted to share a fun, custom prom dress that we made last prom season.
Our client, Hannah, came to us with a specific vision for her prom dress. She is 6ft tall and couldn’t find anything that fit her well or that was the exact style that she liked. She had a picture of a dress similar to what she wanted and a firm idea of how she wanted to change it.
Over the course of a few months and several appointments, Rita and Hannah discussed fabric, embellishments, and styling. In the end, Hannah had a perfectly-fitted, dream prom dress. She was the only one at prom with a one-of-a-kind dress like this!

This spring one of our long time clients, a mother, came into the studio with a problem. Her daughter had a party to go to and she wanted to wear a dress that she already owned. During the winter months, the young girl had a major growth spurt causing the dress to be too short and too low cut. The mother didn’t want to buy another dress just for a one-time wear plus her daughter loved the dress that she already owned.
Luckily Rita had a solution. She could add extra fabric to the bottom and neckline of the dress. Rita quickly realized that finding fabric to match the dress would be very difficult. She searched all the local fabric stores but couldn’t find any fabric that would match the dress. On a whim, Rita decided to look through her own closet for something that could help her. She discovered a black skirt in her donation pile that would match perfectly! Rita took apart the skirt and added the fabric to the dress. The mother and daughter were ecstatic when they saw the final product. They were even more overjoyed when they heard how Rita recycled her own unwanted skirt to finish the dress.
In the end, the mother and daughter had a dress that would fit great for another season along with the knowledge that they helped reduce, reuse, and recycle.
